Strip oak hardwood flooring is a standard lumberyard product. But if you're dealing with an historic restoration, or a custom-built new house with traditional character, you may want a floor with more than run-of-the-mill character.
The accompanying supplier lists, extracted from recent issues of PERIOD HOMES magazine, provide a good cross-section of today's historic and specialty wood floor suppliers. You'll find several dealers in antique wood floors that are created either by recycling old boards, or by resawing of heavy timbers salvaged from old warehouses. There are also several sources for wide-board flooring sawn from new pine
logs. Additionally, we've included a few suppliers of floor specialties: Wood floor grilles, floor finishes, and a moisture meter to monitor moisture content in wood floors prior to installation.
Each issue of Period Homes magazine contains 18 or more such illustrated Buying Guides in product and service areas suitable for restoration, renovation and the construction of new homes in period styles. To subscribe to Period Homes, sign up on our subscription page.
