Fine Architectural Metalsmiths

A port cochere railing shows a fresh take on the lines of classical ironwork.

A blackened bronze patina and crisp lines define the unusual canopy of this pumpkin-head lantern.

Forged true wrought iron in an oiled finish shows the rich coloration of the worked iron.

Meticulous hand-building and a strong design sense mark the custom forge works of Fine Architectural Metalsmiths. Eight international design awards showcase the artisans' expertise: for the trompe l'oeil "Eagle Gate" of full-scale eagles on a Calderesque gate, for the restoration of Amos Fish ironworks, for one of its signature sculpted "Beech Tree Gate", for the monumental Goldman's Treasures atrium, and for a mixed media "Crane with Chrysantheum" table sculpture. Recently Fine Architectural Metalsmiths was awarded honors for three major projects: for a monumental forged staircase with an exclusive openwork bronze riser design, for the folk-art finish to a whimsical elevator enclosure, and for the historical architecture forged into the parapet rail of an old estate.

Fine Architectural Metalsmiths does classical and innovative architectural forgework and fine metalwork construction, from driveway gates and staircase railings to custom lighting and garden pieces. The architectural metalsmith studio works in iron, stainless steel, bronze, and copper, and in period styles from Renaissance to Arts and Crafts.

This past year the forge studio launched a new Center for Metal Arts to hosts workshops and design seminars at the Florida NY studio. The Center was founded to provide advanced education for and by accomplished smiths, to offer hands-on workshops for the public, and to educate the larger architectural design community about working with the metalsmithing community.

Fine Architectural Metalsmiths' forge studio is in a renovated 1890's icehouse in the village of Florida, NY, just 75 miles northwest of New York City. Above the forge studio level, the main floor is a showroom gallery of "sketches in iron" where architects and homeowners can browse forged samples, railing fragments and custom lighting works.
