Deep Landing Workshop
Deep Landing Workshop sconces are based on early American tinware. There are no exact reproductions, but we create stylized versions of the old designs, for example, the S-1 is our rendition of the Carpenter Hall sconce. The mirrored sconces are fitted with silvered, handmade glass, giving reality just the right touch of distortion. We started designing chandeliers based on early American designs as soon as we had moved outside the historical record, though we like to think that if we could come up with the design, so could they. We moved from the Campbell Tavern-inspired wood center chandeliers to colonial tin to Shaker inspired wrought iron creations. It wasn't long before we were carving, gilding, graining, and marbling. We've turned them into ovals, added small halogen down lights, and refined our "wireless" hook. Our process is one of constant embellishment and improvement. And every once and awhile we do something completely different. DLW lantern styles range from the humble barn light to the gorgeous Georgian. The basic finish is the same as that applied to the "old tin" sconces, but done in lead-coated copper. It looks like old iron, but won't rust. We also work in copper or brass, left natural to "go to weather," or done with a verdigris or antique finish. We also offer heavily textured faux-finishes, from bronze to rust. Custom wall brackets can be created to hang your new lantern properly. The "antique" glass is hand-made. It is expensive and difficult to work with, but as with many of the things we do, it makes the Deep Landing Difference. Website:
