Sun Architectural Woodworks Inc.
In a Maine country setting, where life is NOT in the passing lane, custom hand crafted woodworking still exists. There are no automated self-feeding machines doing multiples of cuts.
Sun Architectural Woodworks, Inc. emphasizes hand work, one of a kind product, and individual skills. The company's strength of the woodwork produced is based on individuals and not automation. In fact, about 40% of the machinery is "vintage" going back to 1910-1940.
Sun Architectural Woodworks has an historic double-hung window product line, This features an interior shutter that slides into the wall (a revival of the old "Indian Shutter" function). This window evolved from the shop's expertise in producing historic elements for residential homes.
The company fabricates millwork requirements for residential structures. A variety of functional cabinets and casework can be produced. Solid wood and architectural elements are the major woodwork activities. Some categories produced are doors and entrances, windows of a wide design scope, paneled walls and wainscot systems, stairs and balustrades, fireplace facades, and custom moldings.
The company's two owners have a combined 60 years experience in the building environment. The emphasis in custom woodwork is towards solid wood construction and historic design. Mortise and tenon joinery is standard application, and raised panel design and "thumb-nail" beading is typical in construction. Hand planed surfaces are produced when applicable. Again, custom and handwork go together. Emphasis is placed on the individual craftsperson and their skills in millwork joinery.
We, at Sun Architectural Woodworks, appreciate the customer's interest in the beauty that real solid wood produces, and the value invested in a well-designed home. The more unique and "one of a kind" the project becomes, the better this shop performs. Talent, skills, and design ability is our strength. We offer woodworking with a personal touch.
