Woolen Mill Fan Company
The Woolen Mill Fan Company produces belt-driven fans and fans with wooden blades in vintage styles. Fans from Woolen Mill are based on and built from patterns used in a 1976 Smithsonian exhibit. They will evoke elegance and mystery to any interior. The various fan designs and unlimited layouts from Woolen Mill will add an unusual but delicate focal point to your design project. The metal parts are cast and machined by Amish craftsman using turn of the century techniques. Fans are available in iron, aluminum, or bronze. We offer a variety of wood for blades including Spanish cedar and mahogany. While vintage colors included dark green, black, maroon, and white, they can also be custom selected. Ceiling fans are mounted on 15 inch mahogany disks. Originally, fans employed water motors or steam engines to run the belting. Our fans use a selection of modern electric gear reduction motors, either AC or DC depending upon application. The motors can be mounted on wall, ceiling, or hidden in joining room or closet. Round leather belts are generally used to drive fans. They are the same type of belting which was used for many years to run sewing machines. One inch flat leather belts can be special ordered upon request. The blade angles can be manually adjusted to regulate air flow. While original fans operated at 100 rpms, it is suggested to run fans at 60 rpms, which is visually pleasing. Aesthetically the belt-drive system possesses many fine design elements, offering excellent proportions and lines. The parallel belting lines also create a visual connection. When motion is added the result is a whimsical, visual, kinetic symphony. Visit us to find out more. Website:
