Click Here for a list of Suppliers Most decorators are still
prisoners of one of the great cliches of the 20th century:
The white ceiling. Usually ceilings end up as flat,
white-painted surfaces merely out of habit. In the 19th
century, however, designers felt that ceilings were the most
important surface because it can be seen without any
obstructions. As a result, the ceiling was often more highly
ornamented than the walls.
With today's interest in
historically inspired design, companies are again producing
the elements needed to create decorative ceilings. To
generate this Buying Guide, the Editors of PERIOD HOMES
magazine contacted the primary suppliers of Ornamental Ceilings and Ceiling Fans. From their responses, the Editors selected the companies in the supplier list. You'll find sources
for tin ceilings, ornamental plaster ceilings, coffered wood
ceilings, decorative polymer panels, and art glass ceiling
domes -- plus ceiling fans that are both functional and
highly ornamental.
Each issue of PERIOD
HOMES magazine contains 15 or more
such illustrated Buying Guides in product and service areas
suitable for the restoration and renovation of old houses --
and the construction of new homes in historically inspired
styles. To subscribe, or to request a sample issue, please
